When i purchased the recent car it only came with 1no keyfob not the usual 2no that most of you guys talk about.

Is this a security risk and do you recommend that i get another just in case?

You should have had 2 key fobs, did you get it from MB dealer??
I keep a spare fob plus a couple of batteries in my wallet

I know from experience, one day when it was chucking it down with rain when the fob packed up, even changing the batteries made no difference, I also left the fob inside the boot, slamming the boot shut, thats why I carry a spare at all times.

Its a dealer only part, you need a passport and or driving licence plus log book even if the dealer knows you, to get new fob.

I think you should also get a third 'manual' key for emergency use.

The car would have originally been supplied with 2 keys, and possibly even more (depending on age of vehicle, older cars used to get an emergency "low profile" key as-well)

You should get the dealer to ensure that the "lost" key can no longer operate the alarm or start the car. It will be able to open the doors with the metal key of course, unless you have the locks changed.

I'd always have a second key for if the first is lost .. or suffers some nasty fate (like drops in the bath/toilet/sink) and the electronics packs in.

I purchased it from a private garage, wasn't what i wanted to do but the car's spec made me do it!

It only came with one key, it's the one with the pull out mechanical key.

How do i go about getting the other keys disabled?

Go to the dealership, ask him/her for a new key, and when they are programming the new key to turn of the lost key. The will need all the keys you have when they do the latter (which is obvious in your case, as its only one key)

Hopefully they wont charge you extra for disabling the lost key as its done in the same menu as enabling the new key in their star diagnosis system (unless they have switched to providing fully enabled keys from DC UK)
