Oh knowledgeable ones - let there be light?

Does anyone know if these are a straight swap for all W203's or would I need more bits?

EBay item

Thanks

Straight swap plug and play BUT Stealer will have to prgram VIA STAR "XENON = PRESENT" for the bi xenons to work.

xenons

That appears to be for a drivers side unit only for £250. This chap is selling a pair I think :)

I know nothing about W203s but with W124s you have to make sure the beam pattern is for a RHD car. Maybe the same with W203s?

Yes - same applies to W203 as well - there is a different beam pattern for LHD and RHD vehilces.

My bi-xenons can be adjusted for either RDD or LHD - so does that negate the need for differing units?

Yes - the lever would do the job if temporarily travelling but thing is that US/Europe have different spec LHDs. My guesses are that when the RHD bi xenon’s are adjusted to drive in Europe the light output may not be optimal. There is definitely a different beam pattern for different regions.

bi xenons

hi there i have been watching this auction, and he has put these items up 4 times times the item has sold 3 times, the last time it did not meet the reserve, but the buy it now was set to £450. Seems odd to me as its the same set of lights 3 thimes over, and they are from a w203 saloon/uk spec. Strange to be selling them so many times and for so less, so all i can say is be wary and see what happens, if the lucky bidder wins them then they are a bargin if its really is the OEM bi-xenons.

If he paid £250 and he wants out of them - I'll give him £250 for them - reckon that is fair enough .
And to be sure everything is OK , I'll pick them up from him - something makes me not trust him ..........

dont you need to have headlamp wash already to upgrade to these units? looks like a good buy otherwise.

To replace the existing headlamps, one will also need to remove the front bumper and definitely have someone with access to enable the Bi-Xenons. Otherwise, it is a straight swap.

Ask the guy for the item part no. to see if they are RHD or LHD. There seems to be a lot more LHD Bi-xenons than RHD Bi-xenons on eBay.

Forgot to mention to fully integrate the Bi-xenons, one also need to install the self levelling system unless the Bi-xenons are replacing existing factory xenon lights. The self levelling motors are built into the bi-xenon lights but the sensors for the self levelling mechanism is extra. So the self levelling function will not work with a straight swap from non-xenon to bi-xenon.

The headlight wash system is not necessary for the Bi-xenons to function but many cars with factory Bi-xenons are bundled with headlight washing system when Bi-xenons are specified.

I understand what your saying, but is it a UK requirement?

its not a requirement, it will pass the mot no problem if the beam is set correctly, it would be like the old cars i.e fiestas novas (the regular chav cars) it can be adjusted at the mot place or by using another car against a wall and set the level/s with a screwdirver or simmilar.

I wonder where i can get a set of decent/fairly cheap set of OEM bixenons for my w203?

Rumour is that the self levelling mechanism is a requirement in the US. Not sure about UK. It serves to minimise the dazzle of the bi-xenon on the oncoming traffic. Of all the HID/Xenons I have seen from manufacturers, all seem to have the self level mechanism.

Washer is not a requirement. I have on mine because is factory spec but never even touched the button to activate it!

Have on mine too - but mine have been activated...

...when we picked the car up it was parked inside the showroom, and the salesman gave us a walkaround the car and explained the controls. I was sat in the drivers seat with the door open, Mrs D in the passenger seat, Junior D stood beside me, with the salesman leaning in. Without me noticing Junior D pressed the headlamp wash button and covered the salesman in a misty residue!! :D :D :D

There's a letter kicking around from the Dept for Transport which states that, strictly speaking, all Xenon lights are illegal in the UK by dint of the fact that UK law doesn't specifically allow them.

However, factory fitted installations which are EC type approved (and that approval requires self levelling and washing) over-ride UK law so there's nothing the authorities can do about it. Same applies to things like fog lights used as cornering lights, LED rear lights etc.

Having said that, I'm not aware of anyone who has been done for aftermarket fitting of Xenon’s, or who has had MOT problems. I guess if there was a very serious / fatal accident where an oncoming driver claimed to have been dazzled then there could be some repercussions.

Brand new cars that leave the factory with bi xenons must have headlamp wash to conform with EU legislations.

I never have used the headlamp wash as it only make a mess of the front of the car and bonnet...

Sensors for the auto leveling feature I believe are mounted/fixed on to the rear axel so if suspension work is carried out this can disturb the auto leveling feature if the sensors are not adjusted accordingly afterwards (depending on the scope of work carried out).
