You don't need a Bluetooth adapter.

You need your contacts in vCard format and a device to send them one-by-one to the head unit. An iPhone cannot do this; not sure if an Android device can.

True but it takes forever to send your all your contacts one by one, certainly too long for me.

Some phones allow you to "select all contacts" and then send them all in one go. Unfortunately some of the fancy ones don't allow this even one by one.
