I've got a 2015 c180 amg edition 1.6 and if I have it in sports mode and in manual mode and at full acceleration and want to upshift it will only shift at red line not 5k revs for example but if I'm at half throttle it will let me change up a gear at any rev range is this normal ?

Sports mode likes to chase to the limiter and the gearbox is slow , so a paddle request by you @ 4500rpm may see it change at 5k .
