W204 c63, crank case leaking oil

When I had mine i took it to MSL for the LSD whilst I was there a c63 came in for a service and this same leak was found on his car (fresh purchase) after having a discussion with Acid and his team it is quite common (mine was fine) but as mentioned earlier can be £££ to fix and yes its engine out ,we were actually shown where it was on an engine block which was out its not a gasket as such its basically a mastic glue ,other's will say its fine me personally wouldn't be happy with it and would want it sorted before purchasing imo if ifs big enough to be picked up its too big but thats just me

Hi spider

That was my thought process to begin with, this morning I contacted Mercedes main dealer and they said the same as the specialist.

They confirmed the "seal" is basically metal on metal without a rubber seal or gasket but with adhesive therefore unless taken apart and sealed with a sealant it will weap, he also confirmed all c63s will have the weap due to this, some worse than others, it nearly sounds like a manufacturing defect more than anything else now.

I'm going to live with it for now, see where my head goes during ownership. Its crazy, apparently its really common but I haven't seen much on any forum about it, maybe it's common but not many owners know its there? Just the garages doing the work? So common its not normally worth a mention until it gets bad? I dunno.

I got told by the dealers, if this mercedes has everything else perfect I should go for it because I could purchase another one with no mention of the leak on any previous invoice, but that doesn't mean it's not there.

I think I'll be going to MSL to get stage 1 and 2nd decat next year, heard nothing but good things, bit of a drive from me but it is what it is when to it.

How much difference did you find the car drove with the lsd fitted?

Thanks for the reply:)

Chris . like I said in my post # 19 , I would carry on regardless. My main reason for saying that is I regret getting very close to 'pulling the trigger' on a C63 a few years back but being a practical kind of bloke I was struggling to justify having two V8 AMG's on the drive in addition to the two 'day cars ' and a van + motorcycles. .

I had no intention of selling the C55. Trying to find a story that the wife would believe was difficult to come up with as well :p . While I was fannying about Covid came along which made it even more problematic (financially) and I missed the boat. ...I still might do it in the future ;) .

Incidentally the mating (no gasket) surfaces on AMG engines tend to be sound if repaired/replaced properly . I have removed both the saddle sump and the 'spacer' sump part of an M113 engine and re sealed it . that was years and thousands of miles ago , still leak free.

The difference is night and day my 1st 1 had a factory lsd the 2nd ppp car didn't so that was my 1st port of call MSL are worth the drive also PCS know there stuff aswell it's fine other people saying it's fine as there's leaks but how many on here who owns a c63 would buy 1 knowing its leaking it could be fine for year's or could fail next week it's your decision they are fantastic cars ,it would bug me to death
I took my w205 c63 for a service and the transmission sump has a slight leak so it's now booked in for the 12th to get sorted and I'm not driving it until (long story) but if you go ahead then you will enjoy the car a guarantee (that niggle knowing it has a leak would stop me driving it to enjoy and I would be looking under it waiting for the drip but that's just me) imo pointless remapping the car unless it has the LSD

The c63 i bought has a lsd fitted, the garage I'm buying the car from, have told me if the leak gets to a stage where it needs fixing within 6 months they will have a look into it, because they are aware of the issue at the point of sale the consumer rights act 2015 covers me. So I'll get it re inspected in a few months to see if it's the same or worse and go from there.

Hopefully it won't come to that, but needless to say im going to be putting money a side per month for maintenance and repair.

As for the LSD, what are the noticeable day to day differences? Is it only noticeable when pushing on? I'm glad I found one with the lsd, there isn't many for sale now.

Thank you

Its more noticeable when pushing on but its noticeable in damp and cold conditions also your traction light wont keep flashing at you 😀 you will feel it with day to day driving and contrary to what people say they aren't tail happy unless your driving it like a tit
😉

Oh wow..... seems like a lot of critics on here. Naming and shaming etc etc...
If one would like to be specific, the crankcase leak refers to the upper sump. And the amount of sealant can be seen in this video at minute 1:56, a very thin strip.

There is also a middle sump which only requires transmission to be removed.
And the cheapest fix is the lower sump which is a max 2 hours labour job.

My W204 C63 was diagnosed with a similar problem by Olly at PCS (who I trust implicitly) in December . Reading all the above, which Olly also said, I may just live with it for a while, and have a LSD fitted instead. It's been remapped to 510hp (don't know where the reading is from, and not overly fussed) and 650Nm, and having the car go 'squirly' in 3rd gear is less than fun. Good to know that the oil leak is a common issue, and pretty annoying to know it's a common issue........still love the car though. Might do a Resonator delete too, as Jack (at PCS) said less likely to be picked up at MOT time than Cat delete. But I can live with the noise at the moment.

The reading is from the crank
510bhp ÷18%=418.2 Whp🙂

Second time for me at PCS with my C63 since owning it. They're a super friendly garage. They also noticed a bit of a leak on mine and said the same thing, just monitor it for now. I've found their prices pretty reasonable to be honest. It's hard to explain, but they have a 'grown up' approach to things which I quite like.
