There are a few “milky” looking marks on a small section of the nearside window trim on my 64 plate W204 C63, these were on the car when I bought it in January . No matter what I do they won’t polish out. Not sure what’s caused it, possibly Road salt? Any solutions or is this a common problem with the chrome trim?

i have similar on my window trims and roof rails - i fear its the alloy oxidising underneath the anodized finish!
Other than painting over or replacing (shudder to think) - not sure what can be done...

If you don't mind it being completely stock and OEM, you could always wrap it gloss black. Have had several of my cars 'dechromed' using this method with great results. :)

I have this on my coupe as well.
Would really like to know how to shift this (want to keep the chrome)

Tried both normal polish and metal polish without any success though, tbh, a great deal of effort so far as we haven't had the right mix of time and weather since Christmas....

Vinegar (some bloke on tinternet suggested)....o_O
Gentle Dremmel another suggested.

Any detailers on here able to help?
(I will be contacting a local firm to ask as well)

IIRC it can't be resolved without replacing the trim, as it's some sort of reaction with the finish oppose to it being a stain which could be removed.

I’ve been toying with the idea of dechrome in gloss black , if the irritation factor goes up then that is the route I’d go with it. :)

I am going to do this too at some point

I wonder what that would involve......?

How did you dechrome your cars? Was that by wrapping the chrome trim? Any pics?

It was Andy, I had them done at a local wrapping company. Put gloss black wrap over all the chrome he could find, from half the door handles, fog light surrounds, window trim etc on my old CLS and the same again on the ML. No trim was removed from the cars, all done in situ.
I will try and dig out some pics!

Thanks for the response. How did the wrap stand up to general wear an tear? My concern is that it would start to lift on the edges. The other concern is the inside edge of the door/window trim on the coupe is not a smooth finish, has ridges in it. Do they wrap all the way around into the door shut?

Cheers

I had the CLS for 3 years and it was done pretty much as soon as I got it, and the ML around 2 years now. I have had no issues with the wrap at all.
I can only suggest taking it to a professional and see what they recommend regarding the ridges. My window trim was only along the bottom of the windows, so the door shut was not a consideration.

I am trying to sort something out for the meeting but didn't want to say anything just yet incase I cannot make it. Am due back in the UK on the 25th (working overseas) but then going on holiday on the 29th, so trying to squeeze the meet in too! Will keep you posted if I can make it. :)

Thanks for the kind words on the cars. ;)
