W204 tuning

Thanks again @Tonygw, that's exactly what I suspected, and wanted confirmed.

I had read somewhere they were the same engines, just different software.

I had also read differing opinions as to whether they are the same engine with the 220 being single & the 250 twin turbo. I'm now sure the 180 is single, and both 220 & 250 are Twin.

When I say 180, I meant to add 200 too

250 has a larger 2nd turbo compared to 220 2nd turbo .

Plus different injectors and also larger air intake capacity. So it's never as simple as 'just a software remap'......and that's not what the manufacturers are doing either. Also worth noting that in stock form the OM651 was independently rated up to around 240bhp and that was absolute limit of safe operation i.e. all components are up to the job. If you want the extra power then you should buy a V6 and if you don't want the emissions hardware then you should have bought a petrol.

So is that EPC I linked to earlier incorrect? Or am I reading it wrong, as it states same part number for injectors too.

This

I suppose I just don't get the point of buying the economy model, spending money remapping, extra insurance cost, risking other components, when you could just buy a model designed for the job for the same cost and that will be worth more when you sell it on.

The C250cdi I have is far to eager to move quickly to worry about getting 60mpg out of it. If I wanted that I would have bought a 1.2peugot diesel LOL
I am sure if I tried I could but its more fun not to..

I must admit I own a C250cdi and its just superb. I drove the C220 which is a great car but the C250 just had that little extra I was looking for. The torque curve feels very flat and pulls hard when in the right gear.
Its not a "really" fast car but fast enough with good economy. A firend has a similar car to mine which he had remapped to around 235bhp and its noticable more responsive and perky. But in standard form it doesnt dissapoint. I am leaving mine as stock for now.

If you do remap the C220 I would love to hear how it goes and what a difference it makes. The best advice is get a good map from a reputable company not some guy of the internet making crazy claims... :)

The torque of the 250 is far from flat , all made early rpm and drops after 2K.

Reving to it's 4700 limiter is useless , complete opposite to 90's Honda Vtec .

Mine pulls like a train way over 2krpm?? Any desiel will drop off over 4k...
I had a few vtechs and miss them a lot. Revving to 8krpm was very addictive.

You do realise a dpf filter traps harmful gasses and then burns them back out into the air once it gets full, yea?

Surely a DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) traps Particulates (commonly known as "Soot") from the diesel combustion process, it does not trap gaseous emissions as to do so would require those gases to be compressed and stored. It is the "soot" particles that are burnt off at high temperatures during a DPF regeneration to modify the chemical composition of the particles to a less harmful form?

Some of the gaseous emissions are sent back to the combustion chamber via an Exhaust Gas Re-circulation valve (EGR valve) on some cars for secondary combustion.
