W205 Head Unit Issues

Hi everyone I have C Class 2018 saloon. My initial problem was with the navigation unit saying activating navigation and hanging. Tried lots of things like resetting but to no avail. Dealer said they think it may need a new Head Unit. Everything else was working fine except the nav. Now they tell me they’ve applied a patch from Mercedes and it sounds like it’s been bricked. Looking for some advice on what to do or if I can get it repaired. I’m based in North Wiltshire but happy to travel to end this nightmare. Thanks in advance.

Unless I've misunderstood, given the software patch they applied has borked your head unit, I'd be inclined to throw it back at them and politely suggest they un-brick it or replace it at their expense.

Thanks Mikey. That’s going to be my default position but just looking at options in case they wriggle out of it.

I'm sure they'll try, but like the signs you used to see in shops said
" If you break it, you bought it "
The alternative would be to contact Comandonline who are the forum's 'resident' audio gurus for advice.

I’ve already sent them a message to see if it can be repaired rather than replaced. Just concerned about their terms and conditions but will worry about that when I get to it.

Is your car 2018 the pre-facelift model (NTG5*1) or the facelift model (NTG5.5)? And is your navigation system COMAND or Audio20?

Firms like Comand Europe www.commandonline.co.uk can often revive COMAND units by reapplying the firmware, or failing that, source and install a replacement unit (complete with antitheft code and latest maps PIN code).

Hi Mark,

I’m not sure if it’s pre facelift but I’ve got a Command system. It sounds like a software issue so I’ve no intention of paying for a replacement unit.

I have seen pre facelift (ntg 5.1) fail in this way that requires a replacement unit to fix.

If you post your vin, we can yell you, or you can pop it into an online vin decoder

Is there a typo? Got it, will check tomorrow unless someone beats me to it.

NTG 5.5 comand on a facelift car. Not seen one fail yet, but I'm sure main dealer has, as most will have just come out of warranty.
