How to identify head unit on W205

As an update to this thread, concerning your SLC, I took my SLC to COMAND on line as they said they could get Android Auto working on it.
Same Audio 20 system as you have, but after a few hours they said it couldn't be done after all!
I've since put the question to Mercedes and they say it cannot be done on my SLC too, I wonder what makes your different? Do you know the build date?

I can extend my colleagues answer slightly: -

Your car (being Model Year 19) facelift is NTG5*2. If you have COMAND it can not support Car Play / AA. You have the Audio-20 with Nav in the car. They changed the Audio-20 with Nav sometime in the middle of the life-cycle. Yours is definitely the early one and it can not support Car Play / AA

I suspect the next question is: - "can you fit the newer one" - the answer to that is "maybe, but I've not tried but it will be expensive as you need the newer unit, the PIN code for the newer unit, the licence for CarPlay, it installed properly with Xentry Diagnosis which will include a software update. You will also need to purchase the full release SD card as it will need a brand new SD card when you change the units (even if replacing with identical ...)

Cheers

Richard

ps, A/B/CLA/GLA/SLK/ML/GL/R/E/CLS (all old models) have NTG5*1, and COMAND NTG5*1 and most of the newer Audio-20-NAV (but turns out rf065's was too early) can support CarPlay with new software, licence and sometimes a little hardware change (so as to comply with Mercedes licence requirements)

Hopefully, this might help.

edit: I don’t seem to have a build date offhand but I have a delivery date of 29/05/17
I'll need to check mine later, I bought it in May 2017 but I think it was built in 2016. It's tucked away in the garage now due to snow!

Afternoon All,

I've recently bought my first Merc, a 2016 C-Class (W205) and I'd like to see if I can upgrade the head unit to support Android Auto. Apparently some can have this feature activated via the ODB-II with an activator tool while other models can't, or need a MB garage to update the firmware beforehand.

How do I go about identifying the existing head unit? I've measured the display to be 7 inches without the bezel.
If anyone has attempted this upgrade before, any clue on what costs are if done through a MB dealer?

Many thanks,
Alex

Hi Alex,

I've just bought the same car and want to do the same thing...... wondered how you have got on with this?

Thanks

Tom.
