Hi everyone. I have a C220 amg line diesel 2014 that i'm having a problem with. Basically the rear drivers side feels like the shocker has gone because whenever i go over a bump it makes a thud sound. Even small potholes are cuasing this sound. I've taken the car to 2 garages and both have said the shocks are fine but i cant seem to find what the issue is. The rear passenger side is fine its just the drivers side rear thats a big issue. Can anyone help please.

Could well be the exhaust, but we had something similar with our old ML270 and it was the spring. Broken right at the bottom coil where it is virtually flat under load.

Worth a look?

Hi Russ i've checked that as well but its not that either. Its more of a thud noise.

Both garages cheked that as well but they said its fine but still they couldnt locate the problem. I've emptied the boot as well but the sound is still there

Tyre repair kit or jack moving/thumping the bottom of the inner wing stowage?

Lift the carpet in the boot and make sure the the plastic wiring cover at the back of the rear seat on the floor is secure.. next, indulge me a little:

Take measurements from the rear wheel arch to the front of the tyre, and from the rear of the tyre to the rear of the wheel arch and report back..

Although my car a w203 is not the same, by accident we discovered the the rear wishbones were out of alignment.. we also had a donkey in the back sometimes as the car would "Hee Haw" occasionally over a bump.. this cured all.

Thats sounds good i'll have a look in the morning and advise further. Thanks

If your car has adaptive dampers on the rear then they can appear fine to a garage inspection but be noisy in operation if they have some internal failure. Can't say I've heard of a rear damper doing this but you'll find several threads covereing failures of adaptive front dampers on the W204.

I took it to ATS today to make sure the wheel alignment was in order which it was and also filled the tyres with nitrogen. The noise is still there. I'll book the car in to have the dampers checked and see where we get with that.

It would be most unusual on such a new car, but a premature failure of a rear subframe bush would give you a thud. It might be worth checking the front bushes on the rear subframe.
