W205
Hi,
I've owned my 2015 C220 (W205) for 1 year. After driving my car, I'll attempt to park by placing the vehicle in reverse, but the vehicle won't shift. It will stay in drive. It won't let me even place the car in park. I have to turn the car off and re-start the vehicle before the car will go to reverse.
Please help!!!

First of all, welcome. You say you restart the car, yet to start it the transmission has to be in P or N with the footbrake applied. Is this a new problem, or have you put up with it for your year of ownership? To shift around between P, N and R your foot must be on the footbrake or the microbrain won't allow the shift. The way it knows the brake is applied is the brake light switch. These have been known to fail, and they do more than just turn on the brake lights.

Thank you for your replied.
This is my first time to got this problem, this problem came out when I stopped the car then my foot on brake and shifted to N, then can't shift to R for reverse parking. Then I shifted to P to stop the engine and wait 5 mins. And start again I can shift to R. Today I have driven my car and no problem. I'm worry that this problem comes in the future.

When you say you can't (couldn't) shift to R or P, does the shift lever move normally but the gear won't engage, or is the lever locked and won't move?

The shift lever move normally but the gear won't engage.

Check the atf level. There is a pretty strict way of doing this, so if you're not comfortable doing it get an indie to check it and read any fault codes at the same time. The indie may reccommend a fluid and filter change after seeing the condition of the atf.

The W205 has a column gear shift. There have been a couple of failures of these recorded here and this might be worth checking out before you go looking in the gearbox. I would have the coded read as a start!
