Hi Chaps,

Posting in general discussion as I couldn't really see where else I might ask the question. Mods please feel free to move it appropriate.

Got an odd issue with my 2008 CLK Cabrio boot release.

First the easy things:

The Driver door boot release switch and the key fob boot release buttons both work fine and pop the boot, so no issues getting in.

BUT, try and use the actual flap release on the boot and it doesn't work.

After fiddling around, I can get it to work again if I do the following:

(1) open the boot using the key fob
(2) whilst boot is open, use a screw driver to push the latch into the lock position
(3) next I use key fob to release the boot latch (so that I can close boot again)
(4) close boot and then press UNLOCK for the whole car

Then it comes to life and the boot flap release works fine.

So it's not anything mechanical, like a broken release cable (if indeed it has one), since I can get it to function.

It's as if when you unlock the car from scratch it doesn't "tell" the boot that the whole car has been unlocked. So the release flap remains inoperative. Through some odd combination of fiddling (as detailed above) I can get the car to tell the boot that the car is unlocked and then it comes to life.

Anyone got any ideas? Some odd electrical issue or a known issue (could well affect more than the just the CLK I guess)?

Thanks!!

UPDATE!

All fixed.

After posting I remembered that the other day my 5 year old was playing with the key when I was outside. It occurred to me that he may have buggered up the synching by pressing buttons all together.

So I tried my wife's key and...……………..everything works fine. Aha!

I try mine straight after, and everything works OK apart from it doesn't unlock the boot.

Try my wifes - works perfectly.

Try mine - same issue still. So it's key-related.

So, reset my key by pressing the key lock and holding down unlock at the same time until the red light flashes...……………...and...…………………..it works again. Seems like somehow my key had become partly un-synched from the car's ECU. A quick reset got everything talking again.

Sorry for posting before I had explored all options....but this may be useful for someone else?!

Of course, the real fix is to not allow your kids to play with car keys...lesson learnt!

There is what’s called Global locking and Selective locking on most modern Mercedes, it means you can program the remote key fob to unlock just the drivers door and fuel flap with one press of the unlock button on fob or unlock all of the car doors, boot and fuel flap with a second press of the unlock button on fob… the flap should then work when the car is completely unlocked.

Ah! Useful, thank you for explaining! I wasn’t aware of that feature...amazing what gets discovered in the course of ownership! Thanks again!
