The old E280 is up for sale with a poorly gearbox so I spotted a replacement last week on ebay.
I confess I never thought I'd be buying a motor from ebay, but looking at the pics and the description I thought I'd take a stab at it and caught an early train to Waterloo across the city to Kings Cross and 3.5hrs later arrived at Knebworth station to be met by the owner in the car.
The car was as good as his advert, and after driving it back to his place, I was happy with the performance. Its an X reg 2000 model with 83,500 miles and full MB specialist history. Another service required in 7600 miles and no malfunctions shown on the dash readout.
A very pleasant 133 mile drive back home where I averaged 52mph and 33.5mpg from a 2.8 V6 petrol. Nice grey leather, 6CD player, electric seat adjustment and steering wheel controls are a nice upgrade from the '98 model.
The only faults I have noticed are the pixels in the clock and temp readouts are u/s. No big deal for me though.
I'm very happy paying £1450 for her
edit....just noticed the date &time is wrong on my camera
