Hi everyone, I am a newbie having bought my 1 year old e class 220cdi estate only last wednesday. Have been enjoying the car and unable to remove the grin from my face until now.

Yesterday whilst on way home from 40 mile trip the car seemed a little underpowered as I tried to start away from a junction and i thought I heared the engine noise clancking so turned off the radio. Yes it was knocking louder than usual. This lasted about 4 miles then back to normal. I am new to driving diesels but would equate to firing on three cylinders. Same thing happened again today on an 80 mile round trip. I slowed down at a roundabout, then accelerated away and heared the same noise again. Engine is a bit laboured and revs are about 15000 rpm. If you floor the accelarator it will kick down but soon changes up again. Again it lasted about 4-5 miles then back to normal.

Have called mobilolife and they are sending someone out but with no warning lights or malfunction indicators showing, I am worried they will not find anything and it will be an internittent problem that takes a while to resolve.

As I bought the car from MB direct, I can take back and reject for another within first 1000 miles. What do you reckon should I ditch it whilst the goings good? Any advice appreciated.

Cheers

It's still under warranty so get it back to a dealer and let them sort it out. You have two more years of warranty left so I am sure the dealer will be able to fix it by then!

It could be the MAF sensor or EGR valve playing up or a poorly squirting injector.
Try some injector cleaner or take it in to the dealers.

Thanks for replies.

Mobilolife came out and plugged in his laptop and straight away diagnosed a faulty injector on No2 cyclinder. He said these almost never go wrong on the new eclass and didn't carry spares so its going into main dealer for repair today.

Didn't expect to be using the breakdown service after 5 days of ownership but impressed with the service anyway.

The engineer who came out asked where I got the car from as he was surprised it had passed the checks before handing over to me. When I said MB Direct in Hemel his eyes turned up and he said "we don't talk about them.." enough said.

Anyway, should all be sorted now so can look forward to an even better, smoother ride.
Cheers

I'd wager they dont actually do any checks! Glad the problem is diagnosed though.

Have you reported them to MB Customer Service 00800 number? They deserve to get their knuckles rapped from Head Office for this sort of thing. Suggest you get your other dealer to give it a full pre-sales inspection while it's there.
