Merry Christmas everyone!

I need urgent advice and your input is greatly appreciated.

I have recently ( October ) purchased another 211, a 07 reg 280CDI Sport.
Apparently it had just been serviced and had a transmission oil change but it was leaking fluid from the transmission so I took it to my garage in Ealing Conor's Car Center and had it fully serviced straight away.

Now six weeks later the following problems are showing:

Car gets stuck in second gear sometimes
Jerky gear changes when cold
When starting in the morning car will barely move for the first 500 yards while revs can be as high as 3000, the suddenly it will engage and from there on it will get better until engine and transmission are warm. It will shift jerkily when driving around corners though.
I had it hooked up to the diagnostics yesterday and two fault s came up - turbine speed sensor and gear implausible or transmission slipping.

I'm extremely worried I called Terry at Wayne Gates but the earliest I can see him is January 7 and he is far from me, I'm near Croydon.

Here are my questions:

What did you think is the cause of my 7g issues? Conductor plate and valve body? Or worse?

Anyone knows where to get help before Xmas ?

I'm depending on my car and am extremely grateful for any input !
I'm reading though the forum/s as we speak and trying to understand more about the issues around 7g but let me know your thoughts.

Cheers

Martin

Correct me if I have misunderstood? You had a transmission fluid leak and the indy just serviced it and did not resolve the issue?

First think I would do is check the fluid level. People often think the leak is from the pan seal. However they can look from the sensor seal Alot which is located higher up and requires bits to be removed to see properly.

I have checked and I am not losing fluid anymore so the pan seal fix seems to have worked.

Did you garage use the correct oil and is the level correct?

Sounds like it could be incorrect oil/not enough of it or the previous owner had a problem, changed the fluid and sold the car with a potential electrical fault.

Clear the fault codes for the electroplate and refill it with fresh fluid... then hope it's quite a way before the fault comes back?

Thank you everyone - I think this what I will do, another transmission fluid change with the codes deleted and then see where that takes me. Where can I find out how much fluid should be used and the exact specs?

A good (MB) Indy or even a Main dealer will know and is where you should get it done so any other diagnosis can be carried out in situ

Book it in to AMC Tooting

AMC are a Mercedes specialist. They'll connect it to STAR and diagnose the problems using their Mercedes trained technicians.

You bought the car with a problem. Let AMC fix it, and you'll be fine. Faff around with it and you'll waste your time and money, start blaming the car for unreliability, and possibly cause more damage.

If you don't want to spend 30 minutes driving it to SW18, at least give them a friendly chat to ask "what kind of problem is this and how would you fix it?" The front desk are friendly knowledgeable helpful people (not at all like MB front line staff), so a few kind words will get quite a lot of wisdom out of them.

You can also try Mercrepairs Ltd,

3 - 5 Hastings Road, Croydon CR0 6PH, Tel 0208 4067866

It's the common speed sensor, electro plate / valve body issue. Apparently you can only get the valve bodies now, which already come with the speed sensor and electro plate.

When I had mine, only Mercedes had access to the part, as it was 'anti-theft' related somehow. The issue will come and go when you restart the car, so think you should be fine until start of Jan, unless it is permanently stuck?

As above^^^^^^

Only thing to add is that if these parts need replacing not any Mercedes Specialist or indy can do it only those with Online STAR....direct to Germany for re-coding the new parts to the car. Olly at Prestige Car Services is one of them where i had mine done.

Hi everyone,

so wanted to give you a quick update how this story went on.
My indy did another transmission service and then xmas came and we had a death in the family resulting in me having to leave the car in the garage for a while.
When I came back and started to use the car again the same jazz started again, car being stuck in gear and going from annoying to really bad within one hour - it wouldn't reset anymore and got stuck in 2nd gear.
So with everything going on and the memsahib not wanting to give up her new Golf R it was time to jump into action and call Terry @ Wayne Gates. Got the car delivered to him and he changed the ecu. £870.00 later and FX07ZDK is back on the road and running like hell :) It was my first time at Wayne Gates and I am well impressed and ever so grateful for Terry's expertise and superb service, I cannot thank him and his team enough! Even though for me he is a world away in Harrow - what a commute from Croydon! - it is well worth it and I will use him again in the future!

On a bright note I used the time without car to test some nice rentals with Enterprise.
I work in travel and have access to some really good rates with ET all over the UK and am happy to help if you guys are interested !

So all is well that ends well, after a bumpy start the car is running well and I will take it to France soon to stock up on champagne!

Have a great weekend everyone and thank you again for all your input - it is highly appreciated!

Thanks for the feedback. What's ET? Not sure what the in-flight's like on a BMX...

It's about 10 months and 7000 miles since Terry and his team in Harrow sorted a similar problem on my 2006 S211. I highly recommend them.
