W211 CD changer issues

Hello all,

After a flat battery the other day my CD changer is playing up. I couldn't get a CD to play. I opened the faceplate to check there was a disc in there. Every time I push a button (1-6) I get a lot of whiring and clonking but no music. It seems to settle on slot 3, but nothing. The faceplate won't close until you turn the car off and take the key out.

Any ideas??
