I am planning on hard wiring in a dab radio adapter instead of using the cig lighter socket all the time. I've done this on other cars before without a problem but they haven't been canbus. Before I've taken live and neutral from the cig lighter wiring is this going to cause a load of electrical error messages?

Far from being an expert in such things but i think the CanBus wiring is only for data communication around the vehicle , i wouldn`t imagine the cig lighter socket would be part of that network.

What DAB adapter are you using , as i quite fancy one myself for the CLS ?

That is my thinking but thought double check before I do some serious damage

Dab is a sonichi s100 I got it for Christmas with a screen mounted aerial it all works in the driveway quite nicely. It fits in the ashtray area so don't need to use the screen mounted it comes with.

It may do, the CANBUS on the lighter socket is designed to monitor the types of things being lit and thus smoked.
If it detects too much activity it automatically turns the air con up and in other conditions may open the sunroof and windows.

It's all done via a little laser light sensor within the socket and lighter but note that it can also detect restricted substances.
In these instances a message will be sent over the VLF transmitter within the radio to the police and your vehicle location pops up on their map.......

Seriously though.....:) you wont have a problem just watch you don't pop anything else out when fitting.

As @pmcgsmurf said (eventually :) ), it'll be fine, I run my dashcam from there with no issues.

Just need to get my finger out and wait for the snow to melt and get this finished thanks
