Hi all. I've been reading up online that there is 2 ways to lower my e55.

One is to use lowering links and the other is a lowering module. Now I know the module costs a lot more but surely there has to be pro's and con's of both?

Im looking for opinions off of people using either of these and possibly links to both of these items.

Thanks

There is a third option........STAR.
I have mine lowered on links which can be found here Contacts Us | Airmatic Lowering Links
The Renntech lowering module is pretty expensive and if I were to do it again I'd go the Star route.
C55Black at PCS Horndean used to be/still is ,an agent for Renntech and can possibly help if you want to get a lowering module fitted.

Thank for the reply. What is star? And which is the safest out of the 3? Will any help with handling? I'm not expecting it to turn in to a time attack car though haha

Star is the Mercedes diagnostic equipment. Your car can be set up and lowered on each corner using Star. Every decent MB indy will have it.
Run into MSL in Birmingham and they can lower your car for you.

No idea on which is safest, my links have been on the car 3 years and are more substantial than the OEM ones I removed. Bear in mind the rear one is a real pig to fit above the diff and almost hidden. The lowering module I don't know much about only its around £500 V £80 for links which will do the same job in the end.
The stance looks more aggressive but I don't know if it helps with handling to be honest.

Ok that's great. Thanks again for the info. I'll give msl a call at some point and see if they can drop it a bit for me. Seems the easiest way i guess

Brutus is on Links, Set up with a slight slant to the nose. I did raise it from when i 1st got it as it was to low for my liking, Thats one advantage with links.

Will the suspension still raise when you need it too and no issues with speeds bumps etc..

Thanks

Lovely house (and car ;))

The E55 really is timeless design and I always have a soft spot for Brilliant Silver 744. (No bias ummm yeh)

Brutus is stunning. Can’t believe your parting ways lol

I have the lowering module.

It’s a nice to have thing. I always turn it off when I take it to a garage for MOT/work so that the car returns to stock height.

You can use it too show off as well lol, slam it :)

I too have a lowering module fitted to my ML! Had it imported from the states, much cheaper than buying it from here in the UK and seems to be the same.
Straight forward to fit if you are a 'hands on' person with the instructions. Mine was a little more complex as although it wasn't listed as being compatible, the company assured me it was with a few small changes.
Had it professionally fitted for this reason. TBH wish I hadn't bothered and done it myself, as it wasn't installed correctly by the company (despite me suggesting a solution to what maybe causing the error), returned home and rectified the fault myself!
All in all, it works flawlessly and I would definitely recommend a module if your budget allows, as it affords you more flexibility over the links.
The links are a very simple but effective and excellent piece of kit too. I had them fitted on my CLS for a while.

This is interesting! As I am wanting to lower the E class soon enough I thought the links were the main option.. Had no ideas that the ride height could be adjusted using star! As I have the w211 E240 I've no major interest in making it handle better it's mainly for aesthetics.

In terms of price what would I be looking to pay to use an indy to set up and lower the car say 35-40mm all round. Similarly what would be the cost of the lower links supplied and fitted. The module sounds lovely being able to lower and higher the car whenever I want (living in speedup town of London this would help a lot)! But I imagine the supplied fitted price of this is high??

Quick bit of research re the above shows that this is mainly for the airmatic suspension on the amg's which I'm certain I don't or am I wrong? If not am I consigned to using lowering springs?

Yes, airmatic suspension only. The E240 has conventional springs.

Switching to coilovers is another option.
