Hi all

2008 W211 E320 CDi Sport ... 149k miles.

The ESP light came on a couple of days ago and has remained on ever since. It is a constant light, not flashing. The car is showing 2 messages, one for ESP inoperative and the other for tyre pressure inoperative.
I have not been spinning the wheels or driving aggressively. It just came on.

Any ideas??

Might be the cheap fix of brake stop light switch (£20) ?
Is cruise also inoperative ?

Or an ABS sensor; also a cheap fix.
Thank you sir. I'll shortly be selling the car and this has suddenly occurred so I have a responsibility to fix it before I post it for sale. 100% faultless car otherwise but even if I was keeping it this issue would irritate the life out of me.

If there's nothing obvious, your best bet is to find someone with STAR diagnostics to scan for faults otherwise it can become a game of 'parts darts'.

If you have home start or similar they might have better diagnostics to pin it down ? Rather than pay .

I had the esp lights when the tracking needed doing, steering wheel all to **** so I assume the car couldn't relate the direction of motion to the wheel angle and assumed a crash was imminent. If you are getting lots of warning lights maybe the battery voltage is a bit low. Give it a good charge and/or replace it if you feel it is old or has given any other symptoms of dying.

New battery from Mercedes dealer fitted 6 months ago and voltage is as it should be. Steering wheel is straight and alignment done not so long ago.

Cheap fix buddy !
Still cost me £120 to fix. That included the diagnostic check, OEM part supplied and fitted by him. I'm useless with fixing stuff even if it's easy for others to do so that's the price I had to pay.
