W211 gearbox service in or near Cambridge

If you saw the state of the gearbox oil after 40,000 miles you would be glad you changed it. New gearbox cost v the cost of 40K mile changes makes it a no brainer.

I had a Lexus GS that had done 100K without a gearbox oil change, car was sluggish to pull away and when I drained the box it came out like black water. No wonder the torque convertor was struggling to transfer power. Once changed it drove like a new car, the pickup significantly improved and I put another 110K on it with one more oil change.

I had a C320 CDI that didn't have the 2nd to 1st shunt. If it did it was very discreet.
But I seem to remember reading that it wasn't uncommon, and MB had software updates that attempted to resolve it. Some time successful but not always. Anyone else remember that from 10 years ago+?

Is yours facelift? Some earlier motors were known for a coolant contamination issue, but I would have thought that the pre 7 speed boxes.

Otherwise ATF service at 40k miles as said.
Sealed for life just means a shorter life.

No atf contamination on 7g

Sealed for life means until it breaks then it's life is over.

Nice job buddy .

while i got you good people, could some1 recommend me a good and reliable company that could do the tracking on a w211. Pulls to the left, common fault with these, not the road crown and yes tyre pressures okay. It`s not too bad but it doesn`t give me the Mercedes Benz feeling. The inner edge of the front tyres showing a bit of wear as well. I know about Blackboots in Chesham but they are quiet a distance from Cambridge so i thought you might know some1 good in Cambridgeshire. I`ve been to 5 different garages from ATS to indies with Hunter machine in their garage but they all told me it`s within specs and nothing can be done. I really don`t want to waste any more money so hoping some1 could point me in the right direction before we rebuild the whole running gear to get this problem sorted :) Thanks in advance

I live just over the border in N Essex and I go to Chesham because they were the only ones who properly sorted my pulling to the left. You really only need to do it once because once they have set it up correctly (Camber, castor and tracking) you will have a printout of the correct settings for your car that you can use at other places should the tracking go out - potholes etc. The issue, as you have found, is that most tyre places will only setup according to manufacturers spec and that is not necessarily correct for your car after some years of being bashed and twisted by UK roads.

My tyre wear has been absolutely correct since WIM (Blackboots) did mine (added 3 camber adjusting bolts) and have since used some local garages with those settings and they still work fine.
