Hi

New owner, 2002 W211 E220 CDI automatic, VIN: WDB2110061A071907

So, bought this car a few days ago from a friend. Unfortunately the car has a radio-casette player if you believe it :)

So I need a replacement unit. The car is a LHD. What do you suggest me ? What kind of unit do I have to buy to have cd (maybe read mp3's...) ?

Other than that, I have another problem with thhe parktronic sensors: can't use them. Both front and back are shown red, could it be because I have repainted the car totally and maybe its because of the new layer of paint and clear coat ?

Thanks,

Daniel from Romania.

With regards to your raido the best option would be to fit COMAND 2.0 . This will fit to your car easily because the Audio 20 with cassete had a seprate audio gate way like the COMAND 2.0 system . This would give you CD and DVD player , and if you fitted the Nav drive in the boot ( this fits in the boot beside the fuse box ) Navagation .
The Parktronic would have to be diagnoised with STAR to locate the faulty sensor

Are you sure it doesnt already have a CD player? - the shot is hidden under the Airbag Off light

No CD player, empty slot down there...maybe its a place for a cd changer

shorty can you show me a pic with Command 2.0 please ? (L.E. found one, a buddy of mine has an older 2003 SL 55 and has Command 2.0). I'll go to a local electrician to test it

W211 is MOST so you need Comand APS NTG1 not Comand 2.0. There is a retrofit guide here: IPOD Retrofit in E, CLS Class

The NTG1 wasnt introduced to the SL till MY05 and there are differences in the unit compared to the one in the W211 so not sure you can use a unit from another model anyway.

So you will need a NTG1 unit for e-class and navigation processor to go in the boot. Comand normally uses a dual AGW tuner but you will currently have a single tuner but I believe it will still work with a single tuner.

So, I don't need a retrofit for an iPod, at least not at that price. For ~ 200-300 EUR I can find an unit who can play mp3s as well , but I'm not sure if I have to buy other adaptors to have it working.

Sorry about getting the name wrong with the Comand version , theres that many I get the names confussed

Ok so basically what I need is the:

Cars with Audio-20-Casette system Comand Online Ltd :: Mercedes SatNav/COMAND :: COMAND Retrofit parts :: W211 last E, W219 CLS :: Antenna splitter for Dual Tuner AGW

and the NTG1 COMMAND system

right ? :)

Only if you plan to replace your current single AGW tuner in the boot with the dual AGW tuner that a car with NTG1 would normally come with. No point really doing that unless you plan to use navigation as the dual tuner is for the TMC function. And if you plan to install the navigation processor as well you need the wiring loom I linked to i post #7.

I don't plan to use navigation processor, I have a separate GPS unit to take away on trips. However, if I find a NTG1 COMMAND, can I still use my single "AGW tuner (whatever that is)" with the new unit considering that I don't care for navigation ?

Yes you can.
