W211 puff of smoke on startup

As said above I had exactly the same symptoms as you have now a few years ago - I looked on here at the time and others had had the same problem - fixed with a new relay. On the strength of that I bought the new relay and it did indeed fix it.

Were you not getting a fault code, which one did you fit one from mb or a beru off autodoc

There was no EML, can't remember if there was a code. What I do remember is that I had the same symptoms, turning over for longer before starting and a puff of smoke on start up. Others on here had had the same symptoms as well - cured with a new relay. I bought mine from MB. Whilst the autodoc prices are good the delivery times and customer service are not - and the MB relay was not an expensive item.

Ok thanks for your help smiley, will definitely keep your advice onboard. I got a relay off autodoc maybe 3 years ago and it looks like it's falling so MB is the way to go, although I have had quite a few service and brake parts off autodoc and never had any issues, delivery time is usually a week give or take.

Sorry can not remember exactly but I thought it was £50 or £60. But looking at the price now either they have gone up massively or my memory is suspect.....

Just an update for the people who contributed and of course those who have been reading this thread. I have fitted a new mb relay and it has cured the problem, car starts first time no problems.
Thanks to everyone who contributed.
