Following my recent recall for Fuel Leaks, the Service Manager said that there are presently 8 Recalls for earlier W211 relevant. They are not for disclosure to the General Public but he did look them up for me. They are: -

SBC Brakes - First recall for Brake Fade, found by German Taxi Drivers, software upgrade
SBC Brakes - Further upgrade to software and Brake Fluid Change.
Audio Gateway - Software upgrade.
Fuel Injectors - Full Test and replace as necessary due to Failure.
Fuel Hoses - Replace due to leakage and deterioration.
Water Drain Grommets - In wings , increase size due to blockages.
Comand - Software upgrades.
Sat-Nav - Software upgrades.

I have no further information, but this for your edification and to check if you have had all yours on 2002-2004 vehicles.

Not quite on-subject, but...
I have just bought a 211 estate (W, S?) that was built in mid November 2004 and because it almost immediately spent a week in the garage waiting for a part, I was loaned a saloon equivalent (manufactured in Dec 03, according to the ashtray). I was surprised at the number of little differences between the two. Here is a list of mods I noticed:

SBS-Stop has been removed.
The temp adjuster between the upper central dash vents has disappeared.
The large vent above those vents now has a mesh cover (maybe it isn't a vent anymore - it doesn't look like one).
The heating system in the newer car does a better job of keeping feet warm and faces cool (despite that rotary temp adjuster disappearing).
The lock / unlock button function has been reversed (now press the top to open and bottom to close).
In "Auto" mode of the heating system the fan's speed is not displayed on the rotary light thing.
The back support adjuster is now a stick-shaped lever instead of a knurled wheel.
The cooling vent in the central console box has disappeared.
The dash now has a headlights-on warning light in green.

That's all I noticed. Looks like the HVAC has come in for some scrutiny duriing 2004....
