I'm going 5.5TT doesn't sound to bad for a 5.5.

I really can’t pick between the M177/8, M157 and M156/9 engines. They all have something special about them.

The one thing in the M156/9 engine’s favour is that despite it’s wonderful and broad range of sound, it’s by far the most discrete at low speed.

The M157 is loud, bassy, and grumbly at low speed and the M177/8 makes onlookers think the driver is a teenage YouTuber with an ASBO.

All are truly wonderful though.

Totally agree both are fantastic engine's. And both do sound amazing. I have never had the privilege to drive the 157 so I can't comment. I know it gets marvelous reviews on here which speaks for itself. The 156 is an amazing bit of kit also I can vouch for that lol.

My point was in the above video. I can't work if it is a 156 or 157. It's hard to get a good side badging shot. It's sounds like a 156 but then it kind of sounds 157 I can't work it out

Ive had/have the 6.2 M156 (W164 ML63), the 5.5 supercharged (R230 SL55), the 5.5 TT (W166 ML63)) and the 4.0TT (GLC63s). Although the 6.2 was lovely (W164 ML63), I always massively prefer the huge amount of low end torque from the supercharged / TT engines. The 4.0TT is every bit as good as the 5.5TT but more economical.

The 5.5 supercharged still sounds like a fighter aircraft in tunnels with the roof down.

I suspect the 4.0TT does sound teenager with ASBO, but I never hear it as I'm in it and not behind it !!

Sounds like a 6.2 and the wing badges look like ‘6.3 AMG’ ones to me?

This was exactly my reason for posting the video Will. I think you and BD were the only ones to understand my confusing thread .

I did, like you, pause the vid, and come to that same conclusion as yourself. That car has had Exhaust mods I'm certain of that.

Here goes: because no M157 can sound as good as that 156 imo!

That would be very special. I’ve never seen a bi-turbo 6.2 in real life. I’d love a Brabus bi-turbo W164 ML 63 AMG but never come across one for sale.
