W212 E350 not changing into 7th until 74MPH...?!

Sorry Officer, I was just checking when it changes into 7th gear;)
I tried a similar excuse in my youth in my Lotus Europa. Sorry Officer, just tuned the Webers (or was it Dellortos) & was seeing if it pulled cleanly (certainly no 7 gears)
Excuse didna work. Letter in the post:mad:

Thanks for the feedback guys.

Probably should have checked this forum before getting the DPF flushed (as it wasn’t exactly free…) but possible it was a good thing to do, if my hypothesis was correct.
I do mainly 50+mph road driving so plenty of opportunity to allow it to regen and not so much driving styles which would clog it up.

Perhaps every time previously when I saw a definite 7th gear at 70mph, I had been a little faster on my approach to the motorway, or as previously mentioned accelerated harder before lifting off at 70mph, to let it slip into 7th.
(On that note, if I do a full pedal 20-60mph and back off, I get a horrible power on to power off up shift bang!)

Anyway, except for the average FC (I got 36.7mpg during my 3000 mile trip), it just passed its MOT at my local Kwik Fit with zero advisories. Even the reception upon payment said “that’s quite unheard of on a car of this age. Well done!”

Cheers,
Phil

It only shows the gears in manual mode - but it's easy to tell it's in 6th because at 70mph it's around/just over 2000rpm, instead of about 1650rpm in 7th. You can replicate the behaviour in manual mode and see where the revs usually are at x speed.

Plus when it's 'doing it' and I switch to manual, it always tells me I'm in 6th, not 7th. I upshift manually to 7th and the revs drop accordingly.
Interesting... I'll have to check that on mine.

I had the ECU software update done yesterday at MB Tonbridge and it felt lovely on the drive home afterwards. I'll go out in it today and pay more attention to when the gears shift. I have the 9G box so it may not have the same problem?

Doesn't matter how I drive mine, regen is always around the same mileage, around 280-300, think I'm on 250 at the moment and 84%.

If it hits the mileage at say 92%, it will rapidly rise to 100% within seconds and start a regen.

Also if your in the 90% + and drive up a steep hill it will go up to 100% and start a regen

I can drive 30 miles on the M5 at 65mph, DPF 88% rising to say 91%, come off the exit and drive 2 miles to my house at 20mph stop start traffic, up the hill on my drive and it will always go straight to 100% and start a regen at my garage door !

As for not going into 7th, mine won't when its cold, oil temp possibly as the coolant is ok. The only way is to use manual.
The updated ecu I have will never go into 7th below 70 odd even when warm unless using manual.
