2015 Mercedes-Benz E220 Se Bluetec Auto
Hello. I am trying to get some grounded advice about the issues I am having with my 2015 Mercedes-Benz E220 Se Bluetec Auto. Bought the car in Feb 2022 and has been great in all respects until July. Love the car in so many ways. In July the EML came on and had this read at a well regarded Merc specialist who diagnosed an upstream Nox sensor. I will cut short the drama around availability and reliability of the said part (you will all know much about this) I decided to approach a Merc dealer in Manchester given my car was on a recall for the software update related emissions, to see if I could get the sensor done on goodwill.

I was told that a replacement of the NOx sensor(s) may be required (likely, was the term used) It turned out that the dealer did not replace the sensor as part of the software update. I was told that Mercedes Benz Germany had refused the replacement of the Nox sensors. The fact that these were on 13 week back order, I'm sure was a defining reason for this decision. Was told that the upstream NOx sensor needed replacing which I already knew.

I acquired a genuine MB Nox sensor on the internet and had this fitted by a respected MB specialist. 3 days later, the EML came on and was diagnosed as an issue with emissions (not sure exact nature of this) After several tests and replacement of a very dirty air filter, was told problem had been addressed. The EML returned one day later. The car went back and the independent told me they had added missing codes, identified on the STAR system. That was nearly 4 weeks ago. This morning, EML returned. It is going back tomorrow.

I am frustrated as it would seem that there may be some underlying issue not being identified, The MB specialist are a trustworthy lot who seem very keen to crack this and are also honest regarding the problem - they appear a little floored by this too, to a degree. I would happily sell the car but am not prepared to pass the car on to someone else with these ongoing problems - don't mind pxing it to a dealer but the car was a lot of money for me and trading down is going to lose me a lot of money, I presume.

I was told a good Auto electrician might be the way forward but I feel that if the guys at the MB specialist can't seem to get to the bottom of things then who can?

I certainly don't want to keep responding to identified faults identified on the STAR diag, if there's actually something else that's the problem. The guys carrying out the diag say they can only respond to what it's telling them. We shall see what transpires tomorrow.

I genuinely want the fog to clear and get a clear idea of what I should do. When the EML is on, the car is running as sweet as ever and does not throw up any mileage limited warnings.

It's only a car, But I'm trying to find a way out of this maze without taking too much of a hit. Sorry for the long thread - no doubt this has all been said before.

Thanks
