W213 E Class cracked COMAND Touchpad

My car is coming up to 4 years old and for the last couple of years a small line has grown to a large crack in my touchpad. My dealer wouldn’t help and it still works but does anyone here know the cause? I have never “bashed it” or dropped anything into it.

Heat.I had mine replaced under warranty. The alloy surround gets so hot if exposed to the sun all day it'll burn your hand.
