My Garmin Map Pilot sat nav isnt able to pick up satellites anymore on my late 2016 e class. I just get then message 'acquiring satellites' all the time whether the car is stationary or on the move. I've tried taking the SD card out and back in again but that doesnt help. I understand that the antenna is in the drivers door mirror and there is a signal amplifier component in the bootlid. Just wondering if anyone else has had the same issue and if there is a simple fix or if its down to the dealership to sort out?
Thanks

Where did you get the impression that there would be a signal amplifier in the bootlid? The GPS (GNSS) antenna amplifier needs to be integrated to the antenna, too weak a signal to be transferred over any wire before a low noise preamplifier.

Most likely needs the antenna replaced. A very common issue on the (early) W213 cars. We had a 2017 car with this issue.

Before replacing the expensive MB antenna, a cheaper £5 antenna might be fitted. The siting for good satellite sight can be awkward, on the dash is ok if not concerned about a1 1/2 inch black pod on display.

Thanks for your help guys. Thne reason why I thought that there was a signal amplifier in the boot was because when i was looking for an antenna on ebay I noticed that an amplifier housed in the bootlid was also being sold for the W213. Looks like I put 2 and 2 together and made 5!

Does anyone have any instructions or a guide to what is involved in replacing the gps antenna with a genuine part?
Mine is very temperamental and often shows me in the wrong place on the map.
Not had the fault diagnosed but I susspect it’s a fault with the GPS antenna.

Comand Online in Lightwater Surrey can supply and fit a new OEM GPS antenna if you are fairly close.
