W220 S Class No Dash Lights

Hi

Have a W220 S Class, 2002.....the lights in the Dash have gone completely....flickered and then went dead. The needles still light up.

Checked the fuses and they are all OK....have been told that these cars have a fluorescent bulb behind the dash and that its not uncommon for them to blow....however, the problem is that you have to take the dash pod out and then send it to specialist repairers, as you cant change the bulb yourself.

Any truth in this or any idea's?

I think there's a known fault with 220 instrument clusters going south. MB are aware - I think a good few were done FOC under goodwill/warranty etc.

I'm certain that it's been discussed on the forum before - I'll see if I can find a link.

There certainly was a recall on these. I had mine done but it doesn't apply to all cars.
There's a certain range of chassis numbers that are covered and mine happened to be one of them.

Ring your local dealer and see if they can help.
If no joy, ring another dealer.

i took one apart once.. fiddled with it and that seemed to sort it...

Cluster Repairs Uk will sort it though..
