I have a 2009 S320 V6 diesel.

Two weeks ago I was driving along doing around 30mph and tried to accelerate up a small hill. I had no response when I put my foot down. The engine sounded normal and there were no engine management lights on.

I parked up and left the car for an hour or so. When I started it up again still no lights but a severe lack or power. I was on my way to to the garage when the engine management light came on.

The garage put the code reader (snap-on if that matters) on and it came up as a fault with the mass airflow meter and glow plugs.

I got a new MAF from our local dealer and new glow plugs and the garage fitted them. After they were fitted the engine management light was still on so they put the code reader back on to clear it. The same fault codes came up as well as a code for an actuator switch on the turbo.
They replaced the actuator with a brand new one from the dealer and cleared the codes again.

All lights off and the car was running great.
I picked the car up a week ago on thursday and it was fine. The engine was much more responsive and all seemed well. Last monday the car went into limp mode again (without EM warning lights). After an hour the EM light came on again.

I took it back to the garage and they had it for 2 days. They rang for me to collect the car and it was all sorted. I went to collect the car, got in, started it up and withing 20 seconds the EM light came back on.

They put the code reader on again and cleared the codes. After 5 attempts the EM light came back on and the same faults were showing again.

The garage seem to think it is a sensor fault somewhere?

I trust this garage as we have dealt with them for 10 years or more and have never had a problem.

They aren't an indy merc specialist but carry out servicing and repairs on a wide range of cars

Anyone had a similar problem?

If you post your location it can help someone recommend a garage for a 2nd opinion. For a car like yours with lots of sensors etcc. a star code reader would be advisable and probably help you pinpoint the problem quicker and cheaper.

I'm in Newcastle Upon Tyne.
To be honest there is a good local indy who have carried out work on my other cars.
The only reason I took it to the garage who have carried out this work is the fact I foolishly got a bit panicky when the EM light came on. This garage is half a mile away against 5 miles for the indy garage
