Hello guys

I just don't know where to stop! I've just bought another car today and this one is a Mercedes S600 w221 model.

The car was parked for a good 3 - 4 months and the battery was completely dead. I used a power pack to start the car up but even after 1 hour driving the battery doesn't hold any charge.
Its actually so weak that i had warning lights come on and at one point the revs were going up and down and it just stoped revving and wouldn't move.

There's a small battery in the engine bay but I've searched online and some say there's a battery on offside rear corner and I've moved the carpet but there's nothing there. I've looked everywhere and I can't see another battery.
I also read that it could be between the drivers rear seat and boot. I've removed the boot carpet and there's only the spare wheel and then just metal and after that the rear seats.

On a side note, this car is mental!!! I just can't believe it pulls so hard and the way it goes for such a big car!

Hi well the battery you are looking for is behind the rear seats you access this by opening the boot, taking the carpet out, you will need to remove the plastic moulded cover of the boot lock,at that point you maybe able to grip the bottom of the rear seat board covering the battery and pull it and remove it ,or you may have to take out one side of the boot covering, you will need only basic tools to do this, you will need to disconnect one of the boot lights, when you have done this you will then be able to pull the rear seat board out.

Thank you very much! That's great! I did try to pull that board out but I couldn't take it off, I didn't have any tools with me and didn't think it would be there, what a place to put the battery!

Thanks again

Yes a complete pain, the back of the seats is not held in by anything except by being a tight fit,you need a small torx screw driver bit to remove the few screws that hold the boot floor covering and the side covering, cannot remember what you need to remove to get the plastic lock cover ,I suspect it is the big battery that has expired, weirdly it is not that hard to change, you would expect more trouble given the distance from the rear of the car,but it slides out ok,make sure you get the right battery for the car,the one in it if it has been changed before might be wrong so check before you buy one.

Thank you, yeah it was a bit awkward but I got to it. I just put a brand new one and everything is back to normal.
Crazy how low voltage can cause so many warning lights and other things just stop working, even after jump starting the car.
I went inside the boot to take the battery out and after few mins it was like an oven in there :D

Appreciate your help!

It is strange that the small battery in the engine compartment only starts the car,you were lucky jump starting the car did not cause some damage the mercedes are not too happy getting jump started, still your S 600 will be a great drive, whats the colour and has it any amazing extras, last one I saw had a custom interior,of light green and beige leather ok but it was in a red car,do not forget to post some pictures we do like pictures.

Oh I'm glad it didn't cause any damage! I didn't think it would but it's good to know for next time... last thing I need is more issues.

I dropped the car at the body shop now as it has few bits that need doing. I have OCD :D I need to stop spending so much on cars!

The car was £120k new and it had one owner from new and i bought it from him.
Some of the options that I can remember, it has heated and cooled seats, rear massage seats, adjustable rear seats, night vision, alcantara headliner, rear fridge, soft closing doors, sunroof, distronic cruise control, Harmon kardon logic 7 sound system and im sure it has other things that I can't think of

Car is silver with grey leather inside, not my fav colour combo but then again I think it still looks good in this colour. I would have loved red or purple colour

Now I have gone green with envy, all those things to play with and a V12,when you get it sorted post some pictures.

Lol :D
I was thinking of getting the AMG bodykit for it while its in the bodyshop?
I've been quoted £850 for both bumpers and side skirts. The front bumper might have a few things missing he said.... I'll ask and find out what's missing
What do you guys think I should do? Is this a good price or can i get them cheaper?
If I get the AMG body kit i'll have to get some AMG wheels too. Is it worth doing all this?
You see, this is my problem, I get carried away and I just don't know where to stop!

In the meantime here's a pic of the V12 :p

Oooooo big block!

Well I would run it as it is,the S600 is one hell of a car, people seeing your car will know it is a V12 and is well loaded, but of course it could be a age thing, the younger the driver the more bolt on stuff they want,as I say I would leave it as is,but put some more photos on here the engine bay looks impressive and clean.

I've missed something here. Why didn't you just charge the battery?

Why did it need replacing?

Oh, and by the way, there are THREE batteries in a W221, although the third battery seldom needs replacing. It's for the tech systems.

Mmm, it makes sense what you're saying, I just get a bit excited and sometimes rush into making decisions :D. Ok I'll just leave it as it is. I actually like the original wheels it came with. The face of the wheels are polished and the inside silver (don't know what they're called) but I've only ever seen them on s600 models
Once the car is back and I detail it I'll post some pics of it :)

I could have as my father has a battery charger but I just thought it's best I get a new one as the old one didn't seem to charge even after driving the car for some time.

That's good to know! I didn't know they had 3 batteries!

I would put the AMG kit on, I think it makes the car look much better.
+1

Yup 3 batteries, third is for consumer devices and its in the cabin behind/under glove box. Easier to access by opening the dash from the side

These are the usual S600 wheels, either in a shiny or matt finish

If you switch them to AMG, I doubt that you'd add any value to the car and the next owner will probably put the originals back on.

That said, I don't actually like them myself, it's just that people do like keeping cars original.

That's the thing, I was thinking of putting the amg bodykit (genuine one) as i think it makes the s class look better imho and being the v12 model it can match the looks BUT it's not going to add any value to the car! £850 for the bodykit plus what's missing from the front bumper and then painting on top plus amg wheels another £800, so that's £2k+. Knowing how I am I'll probably end up selling it in few months time. Still want an e55amg w211 designo model.
I haven't heard back from the guy selling the amg kit so I'll probably leave the car oem.

That's the wheels the car has (shiny) and even though they're quite small (17s) for the s class, I don't know why but I think they suite the car
