We have been looking at W246 B Class, diesel autos as a run around. We have 3 Beagles and our company provided cars get a bit messed running them around, and runs to the tip etc.

Mileage wise, petrol would probably make more sense, but the diseasels seem more plentiful.
Looking in the £4-£6k region, typically 90k-110k.
Avoid like the plague, or no worse than other stuff in that price range?

(Have also been looking at Yeti's and Tiguan DSG/autos)

Had no problems with our B180d, W246. Plenty of room and the rear seats can move forward easily.. found that the 180 was a little under powered and should have gone for a 200 or 220.
Not sure that it would be a dog friendly car in comparison to an estate for access, but as long as the Beagles can reach the pedals !!!!
Other seem to have had problems with the gearbox and, or drive.

Another happy owner here. We bought ours new in 2015 (Euro 6 compliant) and it has been totally reliable while returning about 60mpg. Nice to drive and bags of room in the back with the seats down. Try and find one without adblue - ours is the 651.930. The only servicing I can't do myself is the DCT autobox fluid/filter change otherwise it's all standard stuff. Also. the 2.2 diesel has a chain, not a belt like the Yeti and Tiguan.
