Last week I took my car to my Mercedes specialist to get the glow plugs an relay changed and the mechanic wrote an advisory. ‘Turbo pipe broken and leaking oil’ I asked for a quote to fix it and they’ve said £190 which seems pretty reasonable.

Last year in July I had a very big oil puddle on my driveway and engine oil was all over my engine. No engine light or symptoms, after taking it to a different garage at the time they located the source of the oil leak which was coming from the boost pipe. I believe they they said it was a loose seal so they cleaned it up and fixed this.

My question is:
1) Is a boost pipe and turbo pipe the same thing?
2) The advisory says turbo pipe broken, could this just be the seals that are loose?
3) I haven’t experienced any loss of power or any other symptoms from these oil leaks/problems. Is there anything wrong with my turbo or anything else?

Thanks in advance!

A turbo pipe could be an oil feed pipe to the turbo or a boost pipe. Oil feel pipe is metal and a boost pipe is rubber. Ask the garage to confirm.

Its likely to be a boost pipe. They do tend to weep a little sometimes. When they do you wont see any lack of power unless the rubber tube has a big split.

Thank you, yes I’ve checked it is the boost pipe that is leaking oil.
