W251 R Class Water Ingress Boot Wheel Well

After a few days of heavy rain, both the keyless go function stopped working and the android head unit. I remove the run flat wheel in the boot to be greeted with a pool of water. It has drained away, since I removed the grommet but the water affected both the keyless and bluetooth modules -- unfortunately they're mounted low enough to be susceptible to 'flooding'.

My question is what is the point of entry from the water -- is it a common issue on these, via the rear door, as someone on FB has alluded to rather cryptically?

I have just had the same issue, with the battery warning light coming up on the dash. MB diagnosed as water in the boot affecting the central locking module and "another" module. They wanted 2 hours labout just to investigate where the water was coming from. I decided to try and figure it out myself.

Did you ever discover where the water was coming from?

A few things were replaced, trim for the osr window, boot lid seal and crucially, there was
missing fixings for the boot trim. The trim plays a dual role in that it senses pressure should any hands be resting on it, and will prevent the power boot from closing.

Additionally, the keyless go module and the antenna were relocated.
