Hi, I’m looking to buy a w639 2014, adapted with a wheelchair lift at the back. To roll through to the drivers seat I need a bit more headroom, has anyone taken the headlining out? Any idea how much extra I might get. 138cm ideally in total. Thanks if anyone can help.

Is the headroom for the lift mechanism?
I use a ramp to push mum in through the back end, admittedly she isn't tall, but headroom isn't an issue.

My next thought is of the height when you reach the drivers position. As the seats in the front are elevated on their bases, and the base would be removed presumably, how would you ensure that you are high enough?

Hi! Thanks so much got your reply. The drivers seat sits on a 6way electric slider, it turns through 180 towards you, up/down and slides back 2 foot into the vehicle for the used to transfer from wheelchair to drivers seat. That’s the easy bit. It’s cocking head to the side and punching chair at Sam’s time if floor to ceiling is less than 138cm… from what I can find tgd commercial version is 139, but I reckon the mpg will be well insulated etc. bringing that 139 down.

Fwiw I have no headlining in my 639, however it is a 2007 so I presume measuring the actual height would be pointless as the bodyshell itself will be different.
However (assuming the same sort of structure layout has been followed) I can tell you that the braces that are there to support the headlining leave very little void at all. from the support base to the actual ceiling of the van is only 34mm, and of course those braces will remain after the headining is removed.
