This turns up from time to time and never sells, has been on ebay at leat 3 or 4 times ,perhaps you could bargain him down a lot, it needs a rebuild apparently.....

Thanks howard for that howard. Im really after a working unit, these engines are VERY expensive to rebuild.

Ive been offered a CLK55 VERY cheap, but the car was run with no oil, and as a result would require a rebuild. The rebuild would cost between £3000-4000 and would probably never be as good as it should. Im just trying to source a used engine.

If its rebuilt by a good specialist , indy or not, theres no reason that the engine should be anything less than perfect should there..

A rebuild involving ditching all the parts that are damaged and replacing them ?

A CLK55 engine in good working order is going to set you back at least 4k i reckon probably a lot more...

It depends on just how cheap the car is .....

Ive spoken to a good friend of mine who runs engineworld (3-4 page ads in exchange&mart) and he said the same, not a job worth doing, it will never be perfect, and parts are Vexpensive.
If i find a engine at around £5k its still worth it IMO

Why would it not be perfect, if you are replacing all the damaged parts with new parts , and it is done by someone who knows what they are doing ( as your friend seems to ) how can it not be right ?

I would have thought that a rebuilt engine would be fine if done right as well.If you bought just an engine you have only the sellers word that its in 100 percent condition and not on its way out.

Ive spoken to a few indys and they all seem to be a little put off rebuilding an AMG. I found a engine at dronsfield for £5000 +vat, so its time to sit and think for a while.
