Car
W115 220
Hello all
I am obsessed with a car I narrowly missed at auction
A1971 brown with tan interior W115 210
Can anyone help guide me to the best site to look to buy please
Secondly I have dated a guy who was into classics and rallying so have driven a few so know I love them but I am a women who knows nothing of engines bodywork etc and would love it if the car would just start and go and be low maintenance, I have no problem taking to garage but hoping not daily. Please advise am I being stupid looking to buy this car and will it be out of my capacity. I can see you are all honest enthusiasts on here and appreciate your advice
Cheers X

The car that you're looking at is a W114/W115 model year Mercedes. The W114 being the six cylinder models and the W115 being the 4 cylinder and diesel cars. These cars were made from 1968-1976 and had a face lift around 1973-74 MY. Can they be driven daily? Sure, they handle very well because they have fully independent suspension and stop well with discs all around.

As far as buying advice, if you're not doing much by way of motorway driving, get a diesel. They are ridiculously slow and will do 0-60 in about 35 seconds but they will cruise at 70mph all day. The engines are robust and not so heavy on fuel. The thing to watch out for is rot on these cars which can be very severe. These cars will rust in the sahara so this is very serious. As with any car, nothing depreciates faster than parts and labor so buy the best one you can find and have it inspected thoroughly for rust (so no auction cars). The other thing you need to watch out for is failed blower motor which will require the whole dash to be disassembled. It's not a fun job.

If you want to go quicker, a 280E with a 5 speed is a quick car, but it also sucks fuel like a V8 Cadillac.
