W124 E200 estate
Hello there,
After my w123 was stolen, I bought a lovely 1995 w124 estate 2 weeks ago. The only problem is that the remote has stopped working (have changed batteries) and mercedes require a V5 logbook in my name before they will order me a new one. I can still enter the car with the key but the immobiliser is engaged. Apart from waiting for 5 weeks for a new logbook and then a key from mercedes, is there any way round the immobiliser?

Please help if you can as I won't have a car all summer!

thanks

Try removing your front passenger carpet. Up in the footwell is a black plastic box. Often the immobiliser and a mechanical override switch is hidden in this box.

Certainly worth a try IMO.

hire car

thanks for your advice sp!ke but there is no box there. Am trying to find an auto electrician that can sort it - MB will not budge on the needing current V5 doc to get new keys - German policy apparently - have rung several different branches but same reply.

Looks like I will be forced ot hire a Ford or something to travel about !!!!!
where did you get your retractable star from?

Take heart - Carol's logbook only took 10 days to come back!

I moved house in April and got both logbooks and licence back from the DVLA in 8 days IIRC.

Very kind of you

Dear Bill and Steve

Thanks for your messages - you have made me feel a LOT better! I shall keep my fingers crossed and will be rushing out to check the post!

cheers

The immobiliser probably isn't too technical on this car and there will be a way of bypassing it.
Not something to discuss on open forum, but think about what the immobiliser actually does and how it works...
This depends on whethr it actually interfaces with the ECU or is just an auxillary unit..

We (well Dad) just bought an ML, got his V5 within 8 days, sent it back now for a number plate transfer! Will see if this also comes back as quickly!
