Hello,

My name is Mike and am new member in this forum with some car issues. I own a Mercedes Vito WDF639, 109 CDI.

The problem is that my car sometimes starts and sometimes not. When I turn the key starter begins to engage with the flywheel, but sometimes after a few crankings (just before the car fires), the starter disengages from the flywheel and I can hear only the starter sound. I am facing this issues the last 3 months.

Where could be the problem?

Thank you

Sounds like the starter solenoid, all one unit with the starter.

MB parts will give you the number, it will be on your starter.

Forget to mention that the starter sounds that it is working even after disengaging from the flywheel.

I will explain again the problem as I wasn't clear on my post.

The starter works and for the first crankings everything works fine. However sometimes the cranking noise stops and I can hear the starter working without load on the starter gear. If I keep the key tuned on, the starter will continue to work but with no load on it. Is something like someone disconnects the flywheel from the starter or the opposite.

It is very straight forward and very easy to get to. Two bolts and two wires and its out. Its on the left of the bell housing.

Thank you. Now left to find a good starter to replace it. How much to expect for a starter? Are there any non-genuine brands which are also good?
