My son has a Creative webcam connected via USB.

He can put vids and photos on Facebook using it but if he calls up a friend with another webcam, this is what he gets:

His PC
A black screen
He can hear the other person talking

On the Friends PC
My son on the screen, but no sound.

Any ideas please?

Could it be a Facebook compatibility problem?

I've already reloaded the software.

Does the other persons camera function properly when not being used for live chat and does your Son's do similar to another contact?

The other cam is fine but my son's won't properly connect with anyone.
The PC is XP but the cam is supposed to be XP compatible. It does everything except vid chat.

This will be a Creative issue, not sure what exactly, but I have SB Live on my PC and it has had strange driver type issues occasionally.

See if there are any Creative diagnostics on the PC. I have found that using the diagnostic tests can rectify strange issues.

Thanks W,

I've established it need XP Service Pack 2 as a minimum -I'll have a fresh look tomorrow.

His PC is XP with Service Pack 3.

If the cam needs SP2 (as specified on the Creative website) does that mean that having SP3 covers SP2 and then some, or is that too simplistic?

Hi
yes service packs roll up, SP3 includes SP2 updates
cheers

Thanks,

The Facebook message from my PC as I try to call him is that he's using an unsupported browser or operating syatem.

The browser is IE8 and the operating system is XP Service Pack 3, both suitable according to the Creative system requirements :thumb:

I've established that my lad's PC doesn't have the mimimum required 4.24 GHz processor - it's at 1.67GHz.

Why so much processing power required for a webcam?

Real time video images take a lot of processing power. A low res b&w camera would take a lot less, but wouldn't have the desired effect.

Get yer wallet out...

It's a HD cam too .

Thanks.

4.24Ghz processor?

Are you sure that's right?

Do you have a laptop with a built in webcam?

I can skype etc on a little netbook with an Atom processor and 1gb ram...

It's on the bottom of the box :dk:.

EDIT - it's Pentium 4 2.4GHz, not Pentium 4.24 .
