Weird Wipers!

Hi All,
As you know from my other thread I broke my driver's side wiper arm trying to remove heavy snow! Don't ask, stupid I know

However, as I struggled to remove the broken end from the car (which I still haven't managed) I thought I'd turn it on and let it do a few clicks so maybe that would loosen it for me to remove easier but the wipers stopped working altogether and even the window's washer didn't work. So there I go and checked the fuses which were okay, checked some others while I was there and no, nothig wrong there! So tried again and it wouldn't work! Now I am getting worried so I took a break and went out and cleared some of the snow off my car thinking I need to have the car checked (expense, expense) sat back in the car and just turned the key and switched them on and now they are working fine, how weird is that?

I thought maybe it is because I have a new headunit in my car and the CAN thing connected to the headunit won't let the wipers to operate but they worked even after I fitted the headunit and they are also working now so still a mystery as to what happened! I am just worried it might suddently happen again and I don't know the real reason!

Anyone has any suggestions?

Cheers

Andy

If somethings not working properly, its always worth parking up, switching everything off, remove the key and lock it up. Then 5 minutes later return, unlock, key in and start car. See if the problem has rectified itself.
I swear that Mercedes cars have a self-diagnosis system, which, if it can, resets certain things and "fixes" some faults.
I have had a similar experience. My car wouldnt start, no matter what I did. I locked it up, had a cuppa, went back and bingo, it all fired up with no problem - never to return. Dont know what happened, just glad it worked later. That was about 4 months ago.

I am keeping everything crossed mine is the same and it won't come back!
I tried manically for 30 minutes and couldn't get it working, I did what you said, locked it all up residing to the fact that it needs diagnostic as I may have done some serious damage then later went back to the car thinking I may come up with an idea why this might have happened only to find it is working properly! Imagine the joy:bannana:

amazing cars these Mercs ha?

Helpppppp!!!!

Hi Guys,
I really need your help and expertise here.

I managed to get the broken wiper arm off the car this morning at 6.30 in the damn snow but at least is off now.

When I was trying to get the thing off I wanted to start the wiper so I can get a good position for the pliers to grap but AGAIN the damn wipers and washer would not come on! SOOOO frustrating so I managed to get the thing off as it was, sat in the car turn the wipers on just for a laugh and hey presto is working again! What is going on here? Is this to do with the CAN thing and using an aftermarket headunit?

Please someone help!!!!!!

Sounds like the electrical gremlins are up to their old tricks again....

My car was telling me that my LH License (sic) plate bulb had blown this morning. Got out and checked, you guessed it, was fine!

Will check again later but expect the fault to have cleared.

Hi guys,
The only grey area is that the dash doesn't show any malefunction and also the washer stopped working as well as the wiper. Wiper is on a 40A fuse and the wahser is on Electrics.

When they come back, they come back together!

My big worry is that I don't understand CAN systems and how they work and since I changed the headunit the ISO Wires were in different positions and some became redundant and I am not sure if that has any effect! Headunit works fine with no issues so I am not sure if that is the case or not. I changed the headunit at the same time as the wiper arm broke off so I am not sure if they are related on not! I am hoping this is just a glitch and once I fit the wiper arm back on tonight everything works perfectly again. One can only hope!
