... now the next phase is "finishing off". Local car audio dealer fitted the unit, with bluetooth and ipod interfaces. All working fine. Now I need to get a canbus interface to get the steering remote and dimmer to work. And, I think, a small sub and amp...

Rough photo below. What should I do with the black bits on the fascia adaptor? Can I get matching "wood finish" somehow?

Very smart, black plastic look okay to me:)

That looks good, what sort of price if you don't mine telling (pm if want)

I would change the 'Classic' gear knob for Mercedes badge myself :)

Looks great! Ive got a retractable 7" screen in my W202. Yours looks superb! In fact i would go as far as to say it looks better than comand would! Just wondering how you got the image of the car on the background??

Comand would have been the goal, but I paid 499 for the headunit (last years model) and another 200 ish for the bluetooth module, ipod video lead and installation (microphone is up by the mirror, ipod connector and usb connector in the glovebox). Comand would have been somewhat dearer.

Sound quality is notably better than the single CD that was there, but lacks low end power so it will get a sub - has anyone every replaced the factory bass module with something in the rear shelf?

Custom backgrounds can be loaded from CD or memory stick.

Gearknob - is that an easy / cheap job? Have spent a bit on the car this month (it's at my indy getting the rear subframe bushes replaced, and the brakelamp and the heater vent, and the squeaky fan motor) so it'll wait until next month or so...

Cubby hole no longer works though :(
