Sorry if I'm being stupid but can someone tell me what all these numbers mean. W203, W106 etc etc. If it relates to the vehicle what is mine 98 R Reg Vito 2.3D??????

The model numbers sometimes throw me too.

It's the prefix which does it for me. 'W' these days denotes a saloon type body, 'S' an estate, but that is not set in stone. Then the SLs are usually prefixed 'R' and not 'W'. I don't know if 'R' is supposed to stand for 'Rennen' but if it is, then it is interesting to note that the old Grand Prix cars all had 'W' prefixes.

And the model number is not unique either. A W163 is a ML-Class SUV, right? Here's a photo of a W163:

Confused? Me too!

Even if I have a estate the model designation is W211. In MB terms the estate has the letter T added.

Are CLK's W208 / W209 or C208 / C209 ?

Always refered to on here as W's, but Mercedes Enthusiast mag refers them as C = for coupe !

I think W used to refer to Wagen (or Wagon) and S was for Sedan (or saloons).

It would make sense if C was for coupe...

It may be called a T Model but it's designation is Sxxx

I have never seen the estate called a "S" anywhere except from in the forums. Can not find it in EPC, the registration papers or anywhere else for that matter. It is always referred to as a T model. (Even in the Wiki link you provided.)
