What does the button on my mirror do?

I can't believe I never saw these before, but I have three buttons on the underside of my rear view mirror. The two outer buttons switch on little map lights under the mirror - never knew I had! Then there's a middle one. It has a little green light on. But what does it do? Also, there's another tiny little light facing the window on the underside of the mirror???

It turns on and off the auto dimming facility

Some mirrors have another orange light lights up the dashboard/center console below "ambience lighting'
