Hmm, while the depth of shine is very impressive, I have to say that that's one of the worst cases of orange peel I've seen in a long time. Is that the original factory finish, or has the car been resprayed at some point?

Also, does anyone know whether extensive detailing can combat the orange peel effect (as it can for swirl marks), or is it just down to the way the paint was applied in the first place.

It is Violine. My E280 is the same colour. Yours looks nicely kept.

I think when it comes to treating orange peel you're venturing into the territory of wet sanding. Not for the feint hearted, I remember seeing a post on a detailing forum where some chap had his brand new BMW M3 fully wet sanded to improve the factory finish.

The final results after the polishing etc were amazing. When I'm back on my laptop rather than iPod I'll try and find the link.

Did the paint correction for the first time, last week, then was promptly rained off , so could not complete the job:wallbash:. Washed and polished today, and the paintwork is gleaming:D. I would have put up a couple of snaps, but it was late when I finished:eek:. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and really went to town on it, 4 1/2 hours is not so bad:doh:, considering I spent 8 hours "cutting" the paint last week:eek::rock:. The wheels took me a while, but turned out great. So, as afternoons go, it was productive, enjoyable and rewarding. However, I am paying for it now, I feel like I have just done a marathon. Mind you, that could have had a lot to do with the Northern Soul GTG I was dancing at last night/this morning.:bannana:

My cars are all filthy , not much point washing them here as it either rains and they are coveredin spots when it dries , or dust blows in from the main road and the surrounding fields , negating all my work in no more than an hour .

Spent today plus the previous weekend fencing off an area of the garden so junior has somewhere to play safely without falling over the 3ft drop below the retaining wall at the edge of the lawn : 30+ metres done , only a couple more to go plus gate for access to enclosed area . After initially fencing around the four large conifer trees at the edge of the lawn , SWMBO decided it would look better without the trees so fencing had to come back down ( fun pulling out half a dozen Metposts that had just been put in with a 32lb sledgehammer !) . Filled the trailer 3 times with branches to the dump and now have a good supply of logs for the fire this winter ; also was a good excuse to buy a reciprocating saw .....

Last few posts need to be concreted in , hopefully this week sometime .

What else would I be doing ? BBQ + beer perhaps ?

Seems I owe the OP an apology :o

I've never known a camera to produce that effect before, so I guess there's a lesson there for anyone looking to show their car in the best light.

Apologies also for having highjacked your thread a little, but having seen the 'before' pictures in the detailing thread that Ian_Mac mentioned, I take back any suggestion that the effect in the OP's photos is the worst I've seen – that BMW M3 was in a truly shocking state, and it's amazing what an improvement can achieved by those who are brave enough to attack a car with a sander.

mocas....no problem at all.......it takes a lot to offend me....lol

and it has turned into an interesting thread and thanks ian mac......great link !!!

thanks also to AMGeed for the colour id
