What exhaust to go for?

I've just been informed by my garage that my exhaust centre section and backbox is on it's way out, so I have decided to forego the standard Mercedes items in favour of a stainless steel cat-back exhaust. The Mercedes items amount to over £500 inc. VAT and fitting, and I understand I can get one made for that price, if not less.

I'm undecided as to what polished tips to go for though. Just from a design point of view, I'm torn between these two:

The exhaust is to be fitted to my E320 Coupe, which will have a Carat Duchatelet rear bumper on it by the time the exhaust is fitted.

So what do you guys think?

I would check with your insurers first, some don't care about exhaust mods. but others will hit you with an increased premium and possibly up the excess too. The changed bumper needs to be declared too btw.

Number 1 as the 124 is a squarer looking car as are the tips

Of the two, the first 'square' tips would be my preference.

Stainless steel will be distinctly noisier than a proper MB system. I fitted SS to my Capri because OEM parts are no longer available. Even tuned down to the quietest level with tailpipe inserts, it's noisier than the original, although tolerable given the nature of the car.

I paid £346 for the same MB parts as yours for my Coupé three years ago. There are good cheaper alternatives from Euro Car Parts and GSF of course.

I prefer your no. 2 tips.

My parents made a slight error and told the insurance company it already has a full bodykit, even though it has standard side skirts and rear bumper, so I guess (as it states Full Body Kit on the insurance document) I wouldn't need to declare that?
I'll make sure I declare the bumper though, thanks :)

Square tips looks right

Darren, I've struggled to word this correctly, so please bear with me!! :D

Is the car insured in your parents name then? And if so, are you the main driver?

Declaring the modifications is the right thing to do, as not doing so may mean you're uninsured in the event of a claim.

However it might be worth considering that declaring modifications may mean that more people at the insurance company look more closely at the policy.

If you drive the car most, but are not listed as the main driver, it might be worth declaring this change at the same time as the bumper.

If the car is not insured in your parents name, or you're already recorded as being the named driver, ignore all of the above!! :D

I have similar to item 2 but quad from Longlife - Cat back custom stainless steel exhaust system should be in the region of £200 - 300. My whole custom system - dual with quad pipes £650.00.

My parents sort out my insurance for me :o
I refer to it as "my" car, but I share it with my Dad, him driving it more often. :) I just get a say in what gets done to it, as it will be in my name when I need to drive more :D
