I have a 2004 c220cdi, when this was sold to me it was listed as having xenons (which it does not have) and a premium sound system.

I would not class the standard CD player with radio as a premium sound system unless it was Bose or something that had additional speakers including a sub and amp built in.

So, what is classed as a premium sound system?

With my marketing hat on - the one above the base sound system the car could have come with.

what I have installed in my car , a vibe 750watt rms amp running a 15 inch vibe space subwoofer in its ported box , with a pioneer head unit the sub is a dual voice coil bridged to 2 ohms , it sounds superb !!!

I would class premium (a relative term) as being the top system for that car.

However, I bet that term is used regardless of what is installed, "because it is a premium car" as sales BS.

I guess it is a case of Caveat Emptor.

As ricardo62 eludes to - you can always change it or add to it.

Mine didn't have the premium sound system but it did sound good to start with - however, I just wanted a bit more bottom end so added a 10" sub to the parcel shelf.

What type of sub did you fit, was it an active sub run from the speaker wires?

I fear my subwoofer post might need airing again...!

I started with an active unit but it is very hard to get bass from a saloon into the car (I'd forgotten that in the time since I last dikt around with my sound system). You either buy a powerful boxed unit or mount a passive on the parcel shelf with a powerful-enough amp - I found the latter gives an excellent result without spending too much time.

If you click SEARCH > ADVANCED SEARCH, type in my username and the keyword 'subwoofer', you will see some posts I made on how I did it - the main one is something like 'standard system improvements'.
