Hello

I have a question what kind of oil goes in
a mercedes 190 2.5 16v. example (10w40)
and what kind of steering fluid goes in the bottle.

Kind Regards Oscar

Hi mate
I would recommend putting a good grade preferably mobil 1 fully synthetic oil in engine i think it is 0w30. I have used this since my car was new(w202 c230k 1997)Also power steering fluid is mercedes own(you have to go to the stealership) as this is the only type to use. Hope this helps

I have spoken to mechanics at my local stealer and they suggested that for an older engine (over 90K miles) I should be using a 'thicker' oil: 15W40 to compensate for engine wear.

10w40 semi-synthetic perfectly adequate and was what MB used themselves.
Shell Helix 10W40 is what I used on my 190. Change it+ FILTER every 5/6 K miles. Power steering fluid from MB your handbook should tell you suitable types. there's a small filter in the reservoir you might want to change at the same time also available from your dealer.
If you are intending to use the car for motor sport or sustained high speed work then mobil 1 or any fully synthetic oil with a 5W50 typical rating might be better. as suggested in a previous post. But be prepared for some minor leaks on an older engine.
