What the law says.....

I cannot believe this thread has been going on for nearly twelve hours.

It's only a piece of wood ffs. Most people are saying it may fit inside the car without sticking out of the window. Would it not be easy to go and measure it? And, how long is the trip home from buying the wood?

After all said, I still think it is a very interesting subject - along the same lines as watching grass grow!

Took the words out of my mouth!

Do you fance popping over to watch some gloss dry?:thumb::D

You should consider yourselves fortunate, another forum I belong to (for therapists) had a thread which ran to just over 400 posts and all the OP wanted to know was how to shake hands with a client properly!! .... where's the 'Ya don't know yer born' emoticon?

PS: Ironic comparison of planks of wood with some therapists noted.

Some might be better off with two short planks

My 190e transporting a carpet home.

I did that with my R170 transported back a 4'x3' flatpack wardrobe. This is Mercedes answer to hatchback.

I got rid of it thinking the road tax is going to rise £400 next April.

Can someone please confirm this is not going ahead with group K, March 2001. I was totally confused some said it going ahead and some said it not.

Anyone remember the classic film "The Plank"?

film104.jpg

Two builders buy a floorboard for a house they are building. They return to the house with the plank on top of a Morris Eight, but the journey is fraught with unexpected difficulties.
The film is a series of "plank jokes" elaborating on the "man with a plank" slapstick routine seen in vaudeville and silent films, and adding new ones. For instance, at one point the plank is tied to the top of the car and projects backward into the open back of a large van. A man enters the back of the van and sits down. The van drives away, leaving him suspended in mid-air sitting on the end of the plank.

EDIT: What a great thing Youtube is: (whole film);

I went to measure the require length, it not 2.4 metres but 3 metres.

It definitely does not fit inside the W211, a bit have to be jutting out of the window on the rear offside.

I have to take the gamble whether the police will stop me on sight.

I managed to get it home all 3 metres of it uncut. Buildbase suggested normally it should be put with the overlength jutting out of the front passenger window and the other end resting on the offside rear headrestraint folded.

Panic on the way back spotted a look alike police car but it just an ambulance. I was lucky when the police are too busy with other things at this time of Friday afternoon.

Buildbase even provided me with masking tapes to secure the two woodbeams. For added security I secured it with the front passenger seat belt. I forgot to close the front passenger window, it rolled off the wing mirror at a roundabout. I closed the window slightly ajar to prevent it from rolling it off. No damage or scratches to the paintwork or wing mirror just some saw dusts.

One slight knock, the beams will go through the rear windscreen.

I will never do it again.

That's what I said! Trouble is, I was trying to be funny.

Good to see that Buildbase staff have a lively sense of humour and recommend the 'urban joust' method too.

Oh look - here comes a lamp post!

Oh look again - here comes a pedestrian!

The car didn't perform any involuntary left-hand turns, did it?

So now you can put "Solved" in the title of the thread.:bannana::bannana:
