Hi All,

I'm going to be replacing the transmission fluid on my 1990 300CE and was wondering what the best fluid was to use and whether it is worth changing/replacing anything else while i'm there (the car has done 158k and changes as sweet as a nut)?

Having a quick search through the forum, some have said only fluid from MB should be used - is this the case or is there an alternative?

Any suggestions would be greatly received.

Cheers, Justin.

Others will tell you Dextron III is fine to use. You pay your money, you makes your choice!

With regards to changing anything else are you doing the transmission filter too? They are different for the 4 and 5 speed boxes so do check you get the right one from MB. Remember too that the bolts holding the sump on the trannie are only on with something like 9NM - DO NOT overtighten and crack the sump.

Cheers Matt, yes, will be doing the whole she-bang. I'll get the ATF from MB along with the relevant filter/gasket.

Who else has changed ATF at such high mileage for the first time without problem?
Not a rhetorical question.
